Official web site of Filippo Ferraroni FiloSTM - System engineering Last update : 2020/01/12
Welcome to the web site for the spreading of scientific culture and of applied research by FiloSTM - System engineering, with philosohical in-depth analysis in a holistic approach
of human knowledge.
" Tell me, O Muse , of that multiform ingenious man ..."
from "Odissey" , Homer
The main goal of this web site is the spreading, according to a personal point of view, of scientific knowledge, with the technological applications, connecting it to the so-called humanistic knowledge.
Indeed, the real and complete goal is to reach a holistic vision of human knowledge, eliminating the separation, fundamentally conventional, tipical of our current Occidental culture, between scientific knowledge and humanistic knowledge. So, in a philosophical and rational vision, that starts from classic Greek tradition, and continues through Italian Renaissance up to XXI century, human knowledge is global, is composed by intimately connected parts.
" The whole is not the mere summation of the single parts. "
Aristotle System engineering has got to be seen as the application of a holistic approach in engineering disciplines, in particular in the field of the so-called "information engineering". In this way, starting from the formal concept of "system", that finds an origin and an embedded basis in Cibernetics and in mathematical theory of communications, the project, the design and the planning have to be seen as applications of multidiscipline scientific knowledges, deeply connected and linked each other to generate systems with high performances and with good reliability. The complexity of systems to analyze and to design has to be dominated through efficient algorithmic principles and by hardware and software suitable tools, with a general and lean coordination. The application of holistic and multidiscipline principles of "system engineering" is a good prelude to reach "project and process planning", to program and to plan the activities of a project and of a process, optimizing all the available resources (time, material, theoretical, immaterial, financial), in a equilibrium that considers all the substantial variables in the running. Infact, system engineering, together with project and process planning, hides an approach that can be seen as an economical and ecological approach, in a proper and complete sense, for the design and the implementation of systems, with philosophical and rational basis, deleting every possible ideological and dogmatic, or rather irrational, approach.
